Problem

Production ran on a legacy Windows program and the spreadsheets that had grown around it. Costing lived in one file, the order in another, and the state of the production line only in the head of whoever was on the floor; the same order could show three different quantities in three places.

Solution

Costing, model cards and bills of material, orders, requirement planning, purchasing, the production plan (CPS), capacity, warehouse, goods receipt, cutting, shipment and accounts were consolidated into one data model. An order is defined once, and every step on the line reads from that same record.
